When I started my summer window cleaning business in 1987, I did not expect to be still involved in the cleaning Industry 37 year later.
Over the years, we have rebranded to JEM Cleaning and have won numerous awards for our charity work as well as our professional service to the local community which I am so proud to be part of.
What is International Cleaning Week?
International Cleaning Week is an event that focuses on the cleaning industry, aiming to highlight the importance of cleaning and maintenance in various sectors such as commercial, industrial, and public spaces. This week taking place March 24 – 30, 2024, is dedicated to celebrating the value and contributions of professionals in the cleaning industry, as well as promoting new technologies, products, and best practices related to cleaning and hygiene.
The International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) is closely tied to International Cleaning Week because ISSA is a leading trade association for the cleaning industry worldwide. ISSA organizes events, provides educational resources, and advocates for the cleaning industry’s interests. One of the key events organized by ISSA that coincides with International Cleaning Week is the ISSA Show North America. This annual event brings together professionals from the cleaning industry to network, learn about the latest trends and innovations, and explore new products and services.
Through International Cleaning Week, ISSA aims to:
- Educate the public and industry professionals about the importance of cleaning for health and safety.
- Promote the latest innovations in cleaning products, equipment, and techniques.
- Support industry growth by providing networking opportunities and access to educational resources.
- Highlight the essential role of cleaning professionals in maintaining public health, safety, and well-being.
- Overall, International Cleaning Week serves as a platform for ISSA to further its mission of changing the way the world views cleaning, promoting a healthier and more sustainable environment through effective cleaning practices.
A little-known fact is that I represent Canada as a Regional Ambassador for the ISSA.
The International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) is the leading trade association for the cleaning industry worldwide. It serves as a resource and advocate for cleaning and maintenance professionals, providing its members with industry education, networking opportunities, and market-leading research. ISSA aims to change the way the world views cleaning, promoting its importance and impact on public health, the environment, and quality of life. The association plays a pivotal role in setting industry standards and offers various certifications to ensure best practices in cleaning, sanitation, and facility management. Through its global reach, ISSA brings together professionals from diverse sectors within the cleaning industry to share knowledge, experience, and foster innovation.
Last year the ISSA celebrated its 100th anniversary!
As a Regional Ambassador I am honored to play a crucial role in strengthening ISSA’s global presence and influence. As a strong advocate along with my fellow cleaning professionals, we see the enormous benefits of ISSA membership. Together, we are not just elevating standards; we are reshaping the future of the cleaning profession on a global scale.
The Essential Role of Household Cleaning and ISSA’s Influence
Household cleaning is crucial for a healthy, safe living environment, extending beyond aesthetics to impact health, safety, and mental well-being. Regular cleaning combats dust, allergens, and germs, especially in high-risk areas like kitchens and bathrooms, reducing illness risks. It also minimizes safety hazards, preventing accidents like trips and falls, particularly important for children and the elderly.
A clean home positively affects mental health, reducing stress and improving focus, essential for those working from home. Additionally, it preserves household items, saving money on future repairs or replacements, and deters pests.
At JEM Cleaning, we train our staff the adhere to the international standards in the cleaning industry.
